✨ Gao Cong Shui Xian · Old-Bush Wuyi Rock Oolong
A deeper, warmer, more mature expression of Wuyi Shui Xian.
Gao Cong Shui Xian — often translated as Old-Bush Shui Xian — is one of the most respected and sought-after Wuyi rock teas.
Unlike regular Shui Xian, which is floral, light, and gentle,
Gao Cong Shui Xian comes from older, deeper-rooted tea trees,
often 30–60 years old, sometimes even older.
To find a batch that truly represents the soul of “old bush,”
our tea masters traveled to high-elevation valleys and shaded cliff gardens,
where these mature trees have grown quietly for decades.
We tasted dozens of batches from different old-bush regions
and selected the one that offered the most remarkable balance of
wood aroma, mineral depth, and long-lasting sweetness.
When you look at Gao Cong Shui Xian,
its appearance tells the story immediately.
Compared with regular Shui Xian,
the leaves are darker, thicker, and more mature —
deep-brown strips with a quiet woody scent and an elegant charcoal sheen.
As the leaves slowly open during steeping,
they release a rich amber-red liquor,
warm in color and comforting in feeling.
Foreign tea drinkers often describe it as:
“a serious tea — deep, grounded, powerful.”
In taste and mouthfeel,
Gao Cong Shui Xian belongs to the category of old-bush rock teas,
meaning its character comes more from the age of the tree
than from roasting or processing.
You can expect a mature, woody fragrance (“lao cong xiang”),
a honey-like natural sweetness,
layered mineral depth,
and a soft yet powerful body.
There is no bitterness, no harshness — only warmth, richness,
and a long, satisfying aftertaste rising from the throat.
If regular Shui Xian is floral and gentle,
Gao Cong Shui Xian is deeper, warmer, more complex, more soulful.
It is a tea that doesn’t try to impress you at the first sip —
instead, it grows with you,
revealing more with each infusion.
Tea lovers cherish Gao Cong Shui Xian because of its emotional quality.
It does not explode with fragrance;
instead, it unfolds slowly,
creating a grounding, stabilizing sensation in the body.
Many people say it brings them chest warmth,
a calm mind,
and a long, sweet aftertaste similar to the comfort of aged tea.
It is the perfect companion for slow mornings, meditation,
or moments when you want to feel centered and steady.
Our Gao Cong Shui Xian comes from old-bush gardens inside the Wuyishan Nature Reserve,
where trees have grown deep roots into mineral-rich rock soil.
This gives the tea stronger mineral character,
deeper sweetness,
greater stability in the cup,
and the unmistakable “old bush” aroma that cannot be imitated.
“Gao Cong” (高枞) means tall, old, mature tea bushes;
“Shui Xian” refers to the floral, elegant varietal itself.
Together, Gao Cong Shui Xian represents
a deeper, woodier, more refined expression of Shui Xian —
with higher mineral content, longer throat feel,
and far more complexity.
Gao Cong Shui Xian is naturally grounding and soothing,
offering benefits such as improved circulation,
reduced fatigue,
better digestion,
and calm, steady energy —
all from a tea rich in antioxidants and decades of natural growth.
It is one of the most “soothing yet powerful” Wuyi teas you can drink.
